Samson and Delilah
Lux Radio Theater
This is a superb radio version of the great film by Cecil B. Demille. Both Victor Mature and Hedy Lamarr reenact their screen roles in this biblical epic. Winner of three Academy Awards.
Samson, a Hebrew placed under Nazirite vows from birth by his mother, is engaged to a Philistine woman named Semadar. During a fight at their wedding feast, Semadar is killed and Samson becomes a hunted man. Semadar's sister, Delilah, plots to deliver Samson up for punishment. To do so, she cuts his hair, which he believes gives him his strength. Falling in love with him, Delilah regrets her act after Samson is taken captive. Finally, Samson is brought to the pagan temple for their entertainment, where he destroys his enemies.
Very "visual" production; due to extrodinary sound effects. The "biblical" music is great. First broadcast on November 15th, 1951.
